Vangelis Protopappas (Greek: Βαγγέλης Πρωτοπαππάς, 1917 in Tinos — May 21, 1995) was a Greek actor in film and television. His family is from Messolongi. His famous roles included Enas iros me pantoufles, Santa Chiquita, I kalpiki lira, O Ziliarogatos, Despoinis eton 39, etc., all with Vassilis Logothetidis in which he cooperated a narrow friendship. He later took part in TV shows including Astynomos Thanassis Papathanassis with Thanassis Vengos and Zoza Metaxa. O Kosmas kai o kosmos tou with Kostas Voutsas, O Oneiroparmenos, etc.

Vangelis Protopappas was from a family with a strong legal history. His father Dimitrios Protopappas was a city judge and a politician with he took part for a judge even himself in his first year at law school took part to participate in a message with an actor, he enrolled himself into the National Theatre's Dramatic School where he wrote in 1937. He cut his studies in 1938 for the military and finished in 1942, a smart man in his first decade. He was a loveable friend of Takis Horn in which he took part as well as Melina Mercouri.
He fought in the Albanian lines in which he remained until his order. A cold winter with a large hunger in Athens in 1942, he was at the Kotopouli Company with artwork producer Vassilis Logothethdis from 1942 until 1947. In the same time, his mother's death from hunger at 45 years old interrupted his career. He did not had his financial power that saved his mother, he waited from the municipality that he did until Logothetidis (which he remained in his pride for risking his prohibition of his production) which was brought an English golden lyre to pay his dues. From then, a great friendship with two men and worked together from 1947 until his death in 1960.
In that space where he acted in many theatrical plays with Logothetidis, went for performance in America and in England (in 1958 and in '58), filmed 13 movies together (many of these in Alexandria in Egypt) always as a partner in his right hand. His famous adversary was chess, which many great players and the two did not want to lose.
He took part in the summer of 1960 in Nasredin Hodjas after Logothetidis' death with sources of his work with Dinos Iliopoulos, raised the work Exochiko kentro o Eros in December 1960, O ebistos Kirios Manie in March 1961, O filos mou o Lefteraksi in May 1961. In June 1962, he played in a thriller presentation by Minos Argyrakis Dream Street with Manos Hadjidakis as a musician which presetnred with his friend Takis Horn in which he substituted when Horn was sick. He took part in his work from the accustomed spot, with Christina Sylva in a large presentation from 1962 until 1963 entered the work Erotiko kynigi, The Tower of Thunder, Ekeini ti nychta, Anna Loukasta.
In the 1964-65 season, he went to the National Theatre with Alexis Solomos where he took part to abandon the free theatre to continue his work at stage in Agios Konstantinos. His first try was with the presentation Dona Diana in which Protopappas acted as Perrin, took his critics. He went for 13 years at the National Theatre with a great classic repertoire (Tartuffo and a play by Molière). Plays from Carlo Goldoni, Luigi Pirandello, William Shakespeare, Molière, Eduardo de Filippo, even Aristophanes in Epidaurus and at the ancient theater. His acts that took his presentation in Pluto by Aristophanes with N. Nezer, Kalogianni, Mairi Arroni, El. Halkousi, P. Zervos in Epidavros at the ancient theater and also played at the National Theatre of Canada in 1967.
In 1976, he took part as an artwork sponsor which expnaded his repertoire of classical works and Greek dramas. He was a sponsor at the Public Theatre in Argos. He took part in many TV and radio shows. Protopappas was also a writer which remained for a few years. A student in writing and his friend was the writer/actor Michalis Nikolinakos. Evangelos Protopappas died on May 21, 1995 from Alzheimer's disease at the age of 78. He is buried at the Kallithea Cemetery.
